Stop checking in all the time
You may think that you are being helpful but the employees don't like to be checked-upon all the time.
To get an update of the task schedule regular meetings with the team. You can not only get an update but you can also discuss/ brainstorm ways to overcome obstacles, get the task completed quicker or more efficiently. This way the team knows when a review will take place and allow them the leeway to complete the task and you will be kept updated of the progress.
Trust your teams' experts
Give your team autonomy to use their expertise in completing a task, work, project. Remember that the members have been chosen for their expertise and they are in the best position to recognise and take advantage of the potential opportunities.
The manager's job is to recognise the best ideas not necessarily have them yourself or have all the answers yourself.
Use your knowledge to put the right people in the right places. The key to managing your team is to communicate what you need, provide them with support and resources to accomplish their thoughts.
Delegate more than you may be comfortable with
As a manager, you may have real targets that need to be accomplished. When a critical task arises you may end up doing it yourself rather than trust a newbie to do the job, convincing yourself that the newbie can learn by watching.
Instead, trust them to do the hard stuff right. Do a review at the end of the task/work as to what went right and what are the areas which require to be worked upon. This way you will be supportive and be a growth enabler.
Delegating more to your team can generate more growth and business success than those who micromanage.
Trusting that others will let you know when they need help and that they know what you are doing will help you in the long run. Empower your team to take on more responsibilities and you will be worrying / managing less.
